Utilities

Protecting utility infrastructure relies heavily on having accurate information and maps of what lies beneath the ground. With our depth of experience, we can locate every type of buried asset including fibre communications, high-voltage electricity, high-pressure gas mains, water and sewer pipes, switches, pressure plates, and other complex infrastructure with great accuracy.

With the ever-increasing urbanisation of our modern world, there is a higher demand for utility companies and their infrastructure to keep pace with urban development and environmental performance standards. From electricity to communication lines, gas, sewer, and water networks, these services are crucial to our daily lives and play a key role in economic development. As cities and other urban centres grow, so does the complexity of subsurface utility lines.

Utility companies are under intense pressure to protect their buried assets and prevent damage. However, managing and protecting these assets relies on having accurate information about what lies beneath the ground. In many cases, the records available are neither up to date nor reliable, or even nonexistent.

I had the pleasant experience of working with multiVIEW Technician Rachael at a Kenilworth Transformer Station in Hamilton.  Very often I have encountered Locators that are not sufficiently trained or experienced to provide the service expected of them, or they come to the site unprepared. This was not the case with Rachael. She was well trained and confident in her ability. I have a good deal of experience with UG Transmission cable locates and have provided training to many Locators over the years. Keep up the good work!

With the Ontario Underground Infrastructure Notification System Act, owners of buried infrastructure in the public right-of-way are required to register that infrastructure with Ontario One Call and to secure requested locates prior to excavation. In light of these requirements, many utility owners are opting to partner with a qualified Locate Service Provider (LSP) to transfer risk and reduce liability.

A partner in Utilities Damage Prevention, throughout the project lifecycle

multiVIEW Locates is a full-service LSP that leverages a wide intersection of technology to locate any type of buried asset including:

  • fibre optic, coaxial, and other communication lines
  • high and low voltage electricity
  • high and low-pressure gas mains and service lines
  • water, sanitary, and storm sewer pipes (mains and services)
  • switches and pressure plates
  • other complex infrastructure

We also extend beyond field locating and will:

  • Coordinate the Damage Prevention Program
  • Manage Ticket screening, look up, and clearing process
  • Communicate directly with Ontario One Call

Leveraging a dispatch and reciprocal communication platform, we can effectively organize and manage communications, service requests, and quality investigations. Field technicians are equipped with tablets and smartphones for ease of communication, and requests are transferred in real-time between the office and field technicians.

With a wide intersection of technology, we can locate almost every type of buried asset including fibre communications, high-voltage electricity, high-pressure gas mains, water and sewer pipes, switches, pressure plates, and other complex infrastructure.

PACP Sewer Inspections

Our Damage Prevention services don’t stop at traditional utility locating. We can also help implement and successfully carry out Sewer Inspection Programs using our CCTV Sewer Inspection technology and techniques. We can:

  • Identify and diagnose potentially hazardous intersecting utilities
  • Asses the performance of newly installed pipes and water mains
  • Monitor aging assets, locate blockages, and more

High-quality deliverables include a video, report, and images of the inspection.

The multiVIEW Advantage

01

Ability to tackle the most complex challenges

Our focus on Safety & Training means that we can tackle almost any sized project. We have the required credentials to manage high-risk projects such as those involving gas utilities or high-voltage electricity. Our Joint Health & Safety (JH&S) committee implements our Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Manual and Field Staff undergo significant Health & Safety training. We are also ISNetworld certified.

02

Efficient mobilization, quick response times

Dispatching from our various locations across Ontario, we implement a unique approach to resourcing that enables service coverage 7 days per week, 365 days per year. We also have an emergency response and escalation process in place to facilitate fast response times.

03

Diverse technology to get the job done

Many Locate Service Providers offer Electromagnetic (EM) Induction techniques only, meaning that they are limited to locating metallic buried assets or those containing tracer wires. multiVIEW Locates has expertise in a range of geophysical techniques and access to the most advanced technology to accurately identify the spatial position of all underground infrastructure to ensure damage prevention.
